What the next generation buys, in numbers from this table:

The dataset lists 12 versions per generation even where the generation header says a larger `modifikaciy` count. Only the versions named below exist in the source used here.

Specs: engines by generation (exact names)

Power per litre = hp ÷ (displacement ÷ 1000). Weight per horsepower = kerb kg ÷ hp. Both are arithmetic on the given figures.

Fuel for all twelve: Diesel. Valves per cylinder: 2 on both 1.6 cars; 4 on the rest.

The 1969 cc 2.0 AT 120 hp is the weakest use of that displacement: 60.9 hp/l, 30 hp below the 150 hp pair on the same 1969 cc block, and 61 hp below the 181 hp trio. Stepping 120 → 150 hp on 2.0 MT costs 0 extra litres of mixed fuel in the table (4.3 vs 4.3) and cuts 0–100 from 12.6 s to 9.8 s (−2.8 s). Stepping 150 → 181 hp on FWD 2.0 MT adds 31 hp and 80 Nm, mixed stays 4.3, 0–100 9.8 → 8.6 s (−1.2 s).

2.0 AT 181 hp exists twice. The 8-speed FWD car: kerb 1781 kg, mixed 4.5, CO2 119, 0–100 8.6 s, 220 km/h. The 6-speed AWD car: kerb 1884 kg (+103 kg), mixed 6.6 (+2.1), CO2 not measured, 0–100 9.4 s (+0.8 s), 210 km/h (−10). AWD here buys drive, not speed: +103 kg, +2.1 l/100 km mixed, slower sprint.

1.6 MT vs 2.0 MT 120 hp: +5 hp, +10 Nm, +409 cc, kerb 1723 → 1789 kg (+66 kg). 0–100 worsens 11.9 → 12.6 s. Mixed 4.2 → 4.3. Eco class Euro 5 → Euro 6. The 120 hp 2.0 is not the faster buy; the 150 hp 2.0 MT is.

Fuel 95 except 2.5 AT 300 hp (98) and the 2.4 AT 140 hp / one 2.4 MT 140 hp (fuel not measured). Mixed mpg on this generation is almost entirely not measured; only 2.4 MT 140 hp (205 km/h) at 8.9 and 2.5 AT 300 hp at 11.1 are listed.

2.5 AT 210 hp FWD vs AWD: AWD is 0.2 s faster (7.8 vs 7.6) but 5 km/h slower on top (230 vs 225), +60 kg (1550 vs 1610). Manual AWD vs FWD: 0–100 7.6 vs 7.4 — AWD is 0.2 s slower.

2.4 MT 140 hp → 170 hp → 260 hp: +30 hp then +90 hp. 0–100 10.5 → 9.0 → 6.8 s. Top 200 or 205 → 210 → 250. Boost appears only on 260 hp. Displacement 2435 → 2435 → 2401 cc. Kerb 1480/1483 → 1480 → 1625 kg. The 260 hp car is 145 kg heavier than the 170 hp 2.4 MT and 90 hp stronger: +1.61 kg per extra hp.

2.5 AT 300 hp vs 2.4 MT 260 hp: +40 hp, same 350 Nm, AWD vs FWD, Automatic 5 vs Manual 6. 0–100 6.9 vs 6.8 s — the 260 hp FWD manual is 0.1 s quicker. Top both 250 km/h. Kerb 1660 vs 1625 (+35 kg). Mixed 11.1 vs not measured. Highest hp/l in the whole model in this extract is 2.5 AT 300 hp at 119.0 hp/l.

2 generation (2000–2004) — Gasoline

Same 2.0 180 hp pair as the restyle (9.1 / 9.8 s, 220 km/h). 2.3 MT 250 hp (2319 cc, Turbo, Manual 5 FWD): 7.1 s, 250 km/h, 107.8 hp/l, 6.24 kg/hp — the fast FWD buy of this generation. 2.4 NA 140 hp and 170 hp match the restyle’s times. 2.4 200 hp Turbo appears four times:

AWD 2.4 MT 200 hp is 0.7 s quicker than FWD 2.4 MT 200 hp and 52 kg lighter. Automatic costs 0.4 s on AWD and 0.4 s on FWD versus the matching manual.

2.5 MT 210 hp FWD: 7.4 s, 230 km/h, 1550 kg — 0.3 s slower than 2.3 MT 250 hp, 20 km/h slower on top, 10 kg lighter, −40 hp.

Consumption on this generation: only 2.4 MT 140 hp (205 km/h) is measured (12.1 / 7.0 / 8.9). All other mpg and CO2: not measured.

1 generation (1997–2000) — Gasoline

Two clusters: 140 mm FWD (tank 80 l) and 200 mm AWD (tank 80 l, kerb 1660 kg where measured).

FWD 140 mm: 2.0 MT/AT 143 hp (1948 cc, 4 Inline, No boost) — 0–100, top, kerb, gross not measured. 2.0 MT/AT 126 hp (1984 cc, 5 Inline, 2 valves, No): 11.9 / 12.5 s, 195 / 190 km/h, 1470 kg. 2.0 MT/AT 180 hp Turbo: both 9.5 s, 215 km/h, 1470 kg. Manual and automatic 180 hp share the same sprint in this generation — unlike 2 generation, where Automatic 2.0 180 hp is 0.7 s slower.

AWD 200 mm: 2.0 AT/MT 226 hp, 2.3 AT 240 hp (8.1 s, 225 km/h — the only measured sprint in the AWD group), 2.4 MT/AT 193 hp, 2.4 AT 261 hp (400 Nm, highest torque in 1 generation). Other 0–100, top speed, mpg, CO2 on the AWD set: not measured.

2.4 AT 261 hp vs restyle 2.5 AT 300 hp: later car +39 hp, −50 Nm, clearance 200 → 130 mm (−70 mm), tank 80 → 70 l, kerb both 1660 kg. Sprint on 261 hp: not measured; 300 hp is 6.9 s / 250 km/h.

Performance and economy (mpg)

Slowest measured 0–100: 1.6 DSG 109 hp and 115 hp, both generations: 13.2 s, top 180 km/h. Restyle 1.6 MT 115 hp is 11.9 s / 190 — the Robotic box costs 1.3 s and 10 km/h versus Manual on the same engine.

Fastest measured 0–100: 2.4 MT 260 hp at 6.8 s, then 2.5 AT 300 hp 6.9 s, 2.3 MT 250 hp 7.1 s. Top 250 km/h on those three (and 260/300). Diesel peak is restyle 2.0 AT 181 hp 8-speed FWD and 2.0 MT 181 hp: 8.6 s / 220 km/h. That is 1.8 s slower than the Gasoline 260 hp car.

Lowest mixed Diesel: 4.2 l/100 km on restyle 1.6 MT and 1.6 DSG 115 hp, and on 3 gen 1.6 109 hp pair. Highest measured Diesel mixed: 7.1 on 2.4 AT 205 hp AWD. Highest measured Gasoline mixed: 11.1 on 2.5 AT 300 hp. City/highway on most Gasoline versions: not measured.

CO2: restyle Diesel 109–130 g/km where listed; 2.0 AT 181 hp AWD CO2 not measured. 3 gen 2.0 AT 136 hp 149 g/km vs restyle same name 130 (−19). Euro class: restyle 1.6 and some 181 hp Euro 5; 120/150 hp 1969 cc Euro 6. Many 3 gen and all 1–2 gen eco class: not measured except where tabled above.

Tank range (arithmetic, mixed figure × tank): restyle 1.6 mixed 4.2 and 70 l70/4.2 ≈ 16.7 × 100 km. 2.5 AT 300 hp mixed 11.1 and 70 l70/11.1 ≈ 6.3 × 100 km. 1 generation tank 80 l has no mixed figure to convert.

Dimensions and weight

Ground clearance: 200 mm only on 1 generation AWD listed cars; 140 mm 1 gen FWD; 130 mm entire 2 generation; 143 mm on 3 gen 1.6 109 hp and 2.4 AT 205 hp; 151 mm on the other 3 gen cars and all restyle 2013–2016 cars.

Kerb span: 1470 kg (1 gen 2.0 126/180 hp) to 1898 kg (3 gen 2.4 AT 163 hp AWD). Gross: 1970 kg (1 gen FWD 126/180) to 2390 kg (3 gen AWD 163 and 205 hp). Restyle Diesel FWD typically 2220–2300 kg gross; AWD 2360.

Wheels (where listed): restyle 1.6 205/60 R16, 225/50 R17, 235/40 R18, 235/40 R19; restyle 2.0 225/55 R16 (or 205/60 R16 not on 1969 cc) through R19. 3 gen 2.0 163 hp also 245/45 R17, 245/40 R18. 2 gen 2.3 MT: 225/45 R17, 215/45 R16. Other generations: wheels not measured.

Chassis labels that do not change where given: independent spring front and rear; ventilated disc front; rear Disc (catalogue English label). Engine placement Front, transverse on Diesel 3 gen cars.

Which version to choose

If you want the least fuel in this catalogue: restyle 1.6 MT 115 hp (mixed 4.2, city 4.6, CO2 109, Euro 5). 1.6 DSG 115 hp matches mixed 4.2 but 0–100 13.2 vs 11.9 s and top 180 vs 190. Do not buy restyle 2.0 MT 120 hp instead of 1.6 MT: it is 0.7 s slower, 66 kg heavier, mixed +0.1, and only +5 hp.

If you want Diesel pace without AWD tax: restyle 2.0 MT 181 hp or 2.0 AT 181 hp 8-speed FWD — 8.6 s, 220 km/h, mixed 4.3 (MT) / 4.5 (AT), kerb 1781 kg, 9.84 kg/hp. The 6-speed AWD 2.0 AT 181 hp is the wrong 181 unless you need AWD: +103 kg, mixed 6.6 vs 4.5, +0.8 s.

If you want the Diesel “middle” that is not a trap: restyle 2.0 MT 150 hp or 2.0 AT 150 hp9.8 s, 205 km/h, mixed 4.3 / 4.5, Euro 6, same kerb as the weak 120 hp 2.0. Versus 2.0 136 hp 5-cylinder: 150 hp 4-cyl is 1.4 hp more per… wait +14 hp, 0–100 9.8 vs 10.6 (−0.8 s), mixed MT 4.3 vs 4.5, and Euro 6 vs Euro 5.

If you want AWD Diesel: 3 gen 2.4 AT 205 hp is the rapid one (8.7 s, 220 km/h, 8.17 kg/hp, kerb 1674 kg). 2.4 AT 163 hp AWD is 2.1 s slower and 224 kg heavier. Restyle AWD is only 2.0 AT 181 hp 6-speed — slower and thirstier than the 205 hp car (9.4 vs 8.7 s; mixed 6.6 vs 7.1 — the 181 is 0.5 better on mixed, 210 vs 220 top).

If you want Gasoline speed: 2.4 MT 260 hp (restyle) is the quickest sprint (6.8 s) at 250 km/h, FWD, Manual 6. 2.5 AT 300 hp is the power and hp/l peak (300 hp, 119 hp/l, 5.53 kg/hp) but 0.1 s slower, mixed 11.1, fuel 98. 2.3 MT 250 hp (2 generation) is 7.1 s / 250 if you want the pre-restyle equivalent.

If you want Gasoline without turbo: 2.4 MT 170 hp (9.0 s, 210 km/h, boost No) beats 2.4 MT 140 hp by 1.5 s and 5–10 km/h at the same 1480 kg class. Automatic 2.4 AT 140 hp restyle is a hole: performance not measured.

If you want ground clearance: 1 generation AWD at 200 mm (e.g. 2.3 AT 240 hp, 2.0 226 hp, 2.4 193/261 hp) — 70 mm more than 2 generation (130 mm), 49 mm more than later Diesel 151 mm. Performance on most of those AWD cars is not measured; the one that is, 2.3 AT 240 hp, is 8.1 s / 225 km/h.

If you want the lightest V70 in the file: 1 generation 2.0 126 hp or 180 hp at 1470 kg, or 2 generation 2.4 MT 140 hp at 1480 kg. Lightest Diesel: 3 gen 2.4 MT 175 hp at 1567 kg — and that car is also the Diesel with the best kg/hp among FWD 3 gen (8.95), 0–100 9.5 s, mixed 6.0.

Manual vs Automatic/Robotic, same engine (measured deltas): restyle 1.6 Robotic +1.3 s vs Manual. Restyle 2.0 120/150 hp Automatic matches Manual 0–100 (12.6 / 9.8) but mixed +0.2. 2 gen 2.0 180 hp Automatic +0.7 s. 2 gen 2.4 200 hp Automatic +0.4 s. 1 gen 2.0 180 hp Automatic +0.0 s.

Problems / reliability: this dataset has no failure rates, recalls, or prices. What it does show as selection risk is missing measurements: do not treat 1 generation AWD (except 2.3 AT 240 hp) or restyle 2.4 AT 140 hp as “unknown fast” — sprint is not measured. Do not assume Gasoline 2 generation economy: mixed is not measured except two rows. Do not confuse duplicate names: four restyle 2.0 AT cars (120 / 150 / 181 AWD / 181 FWD 8-speed); two 1.6 MT in 3 generation (109 and 115 hp); two 2.4 AT AWD in 3 generation (163 and 205 hp).

Short map: economy Diesel → restyle 1.6 MT 115 hp. Daily Diesel with Euro 6 → restyle 2.0 MT 150 hp. Fast Diesel FWD → restyle 2.0 MT 181 hp or 2.0 AT 181 hp 8-speed. Diesel AWD → 3 gen 2.4 AT 205 hp. Fast Gasoline FWD → 2.4 MT 260 hp. Most hp and lowest kg/hp → 2.5 AT 300 hp. Clearance → 1 generation AWD 200 mm. Light NA Gasoline → 2.4 MT 170 hp.
