Generations: what changed enough to change the purchase

Version names are exactly as in the database. Same names are split by hp, fuel, drive or mass.

1 generation (1983–1989, Mini 3-doors). The only generation where a 100 hp 1.3 MT (1298 cm³, Gasoline, Inline 4, No boost, 5-speed Manual, FWD, 800 kg) is measured at 8.6 s to 100 km/h and 180 km/h — that is 8.00 kg per hp and the shortest 0–100 in the entire model file. The same-name 1.3 AT at 100 hp is 800 kg too, but 0–100 and top speed are not measured. Two Turbo 993 cm³ threes sit beside them: 1.0 MT 71 hp / 156 Nm and 1.0 AT 71 hp / 156 Nm; kerb, 0–100, tank and clearance are not measured on both, so you cannot rank them against the 100 hp pair on weight. Everyday 1.0 cars are 1.0 AT 50 hp and 1.0 MT 50 hp, both 800 kg. Remaining 1.3 AT / 1.3 MT pairs at 64 hp (1298 cm³), 68 hp (1324 cm³) and 73 hp (1324 cm³) have torque not measured on the 64 and 68 hp cars. Buy this generation only if 8.6 s at 800 kg is the criterion; most other columns are empty.

2 generation (1989–1995 Cabrio, restyling 2000–2004 Sedan). The Cabrio years add AWD 1.6 MT at 92 hp and at 95 hp (both 1590 cm³, 133 Nm, 80 octane, 900 kg, 178 km/h) versus FWD 1.6 MT 92 hp (840 kg, top speed not measured) and FWD 1.6 MT 95 hp (840 kg, 182 km/h). The 95 hp FWD car is 60 kg lighter than the 95 hp AWD car and 4 km/h faster where both speeds are measured; mixed consumption is 6.1 versus 7.0 L/100 km. 1.6 AT 95 hp has kerb, 0–100, speed and consumption not measured. Smallest engines: 1.0 MT 56 hp (795 kg, 145 km/h, mixed 5.8) and 1.0 MT 53 hp (750 kg, 145 km/h, mixed 7.3). Several 1.3 MT names must be split by hp and displacement: 68 hp / 1298 cm³, 68 hp / 1299 cm³, 69 hp / 1299 cm³, 86 hp / 1328 cm³. The restyling Sedan repeats the 53–92 hp band with 1.0 MT 53 hp now measured at 15.6 s / 145 km/h / mixed 7.1, and 1.3 MT 68 hp (1298 cm³) at 13.1 s / 165 km/h. Buy 2 generation FWD 1.6 MT 95 hp for the 182 km/h figure; buy AWD only if the 60 kg and 0.9 L/100 km mixed penalty is acceptable. Octane 80 on every 1.6 here is a fuel constraint the later 1.6 cars (95 octane) do not share.

3 generation (2004–2008, restyling 2008–2010, Mini 5-doors). Pre-restyling is five versions of 1328 and 1490 cm³ only. 1.3 MT FWD 88 hp is 880 kg and 165 mm clearance; 1.3 AT FWD 88 hp is 920 kg; 1.3 MT AWD 88 hp is 920 kg and 175 mm; 1.3 AT AWD 88 hp is 960 kg and 175 mm; 1.5 MT 115 hp is 930 kg and 160 mm. 0–100, top speed and consumption are not measured on all five — you can rank only mass and clearance. Restyling is where numbers become usable: 1.5 MT 102 hp does 10.0 s / 185 km/h / mixed 6.5 at 1000 kg; 1.3 MT FWD 92 hp does 11.0 s / 175 km/h / mixed 6.0 at 980 kg; AWD 1.3 MT 92 hp adds 80 kg, 1.8 s, and 0.5 L/100 km mixed versus that FWD 1.3 MT. 1.3 AGS 92 hp (Robotic 5, 1065 kg) matches the AWD 1.3 MT 12.8 s / 167 km/h. 1.6 MT 125 hp (1586 cm³, 98 octane, 1060 kg) and 1.6 AT 125 hp (1070 kg) have 0–100 not measured. Diesel 1.3 MT 70 hp is 14.2 s / 165 km/h / mixed 4.6. Buy restyle 1.5 MT if you want the shortest measured 0–100 in 3 generation; buy restyle 1.3 MT FWD if 1.0 s slower and 0.5 L/100 km less mixed matter more.

4 generation (2010–2013 Mini 3-doors, restyling 2013–2017 Mini 5-doors). This is the generation to buy for a measured Sport-like 1.6 without Turbo: 1.6 MT 136 hp, 160 Nm, 1586 cm³, Gasoline, Inline 4, No boost, 6-speed Manual, FWD, 8.7 s, 195 km/h, mixed 6.4, 95 octane. Two 1.6 MT rows differ by 15 kg: 1115 kg and 1130 kg, same 8.7 s and 195 km/h (8.20 versus 8.31 kg/hp). Restyling adds 1.6 CVT 136 hp at 1060 kg — 70 kg lighter than the 1130 kg 1.6 MT, but 0–100, top speed and consumption not measured, so the CVT cannot be called quicker. Diesel 1.3 MT 75 hp (1248 cm³, Turbo, 190 Nm, 1125 kg) is 12.7 s / 165 km/h / city 4.7 / highway 3.4 / mixed 3.9 — 2.5 L/100 km mixed below the 136 hp 1.6 MT. Everyday petrol: several 1.2 MT at 94 hp. Distinguish them: FWD 945 kg (4 generation, 12.3 s / 165 km/h / mixed 5.0), FWD 960 kg (same times), FWD 1020 kg restyle (same 12.3 s / mixed 5.0), AWD 1135 kg (4 generation, 13.4 s / mixed 5.5) and AWD 1035 kg restyle (13.4 s / mixed 5.5). Restyle also has 1.2 MT 91 hp FWD at 960 kg, 12.3 s / mixed 5.0 — 3 hp less than the 94 hp FWD twins, same stopwatch. 1.2 AT 94 hp: 975 kg (13.5 s / 160 km/h / mixed 5.5), 990 kg restyle (13.5 s / mixed 5.6), 1040 kg (13.5 s / mixed 5.6). Wheels where listed: 175/65 R15 and 185/55 R16. Tank 42 L versus 37 L later. Clearance 130 mm on the 1.6 cars, 140 mm on most 1.2/1.3. Buy 1.6 MT for 8.7 s; buy 1.3 MT Diesel for 3.9 mixed; buy FWD 1.2 MT 94 hp (945–960 kg) over AWD 1.2 MT because AWD costs 1.1 s and 0.5 L/100 km mixed at +75 to +190 kg.

5 generation (2016–2020, restyling from 2020-09-01, Mini 5-doors). This is the generation to buy if you want Turbo, Hybrid, or the lightest kerb in the modern cars. 1.4 MT 140 hp / 230 Nm / 1371 cm³ / Turbo / 98 octane / 970 kg is 102.1 hp per litre and 6.93 kg/hp — 4 hp and 70 Nm above the 4 generation 1.6 MT, 145–160 kg lighter, but 0–100, top speed and consumption are not measured, so you cannot claim it is quicker than 8.7 s. 1.4 AT is the same engine with Automatic 6 and 990 kg (+20 kg). 1.0 AT 102 hp / 150 Nm / 996 cm³ / Turbo / Inline 3 / Direct injection (direct) / 930 kg is 102.4 hp per litre — slightly denser than the 1.4 — with torque from 1700–4500 rpm; 0–100 not measured. Three Hybrid 1.2 names at 91 hp / 118 Nm / 1242 cm³ / compression 12.5 / 73 × 74.2: 1.2 CVT Hybrid FWD 910 kg / 120 mm; 1.2 CVT Hybrid AWD 970 kg / 145 mm (+60 kg, +25 mm); 1.2 AGS Hybrid FWD Robotic 5, 960 kg / 120 mm. A fourth 1.2 CVT is Gasoline AWD, 950 kg, 119 mm — 20 kg lighter than Hybrid AWD, 25 mm less clearance, and compression not measured. Daily petrol with a full sheet: 1.2 MT 90 hp, 870 kg, 11.9 s, 180 km/h, 5.7/4.0/4.6, Euro 6, gross 1365 kg; 1.2 AT 90 hp, 890 kg, 11.0 s, 175 km/h, 5.8/4.1/4.7 (Automatic gears not measured). The AT is 0.9 s faster to 100 despite +20 kg. Restyling drops Hybrid and 1.4: two 1.2 AT / 1.2 MT pairs. 1.2 AT 90 hp (1242 cm³, 900 kg, 11.0 s, 175 km/h, mixed 5.81, 6-speed Automatic) versus 1.2 AT 83 hp (1197 cm³, 935 kg, 12.2 s, 175 km/h, mixed 5.4, CO2 115, Euro 6): +7 hp, −35 kg, −1.2 s, +0.41 mixed. 1.2 MT 90 hp (870 kg, 11.9 s, 180 km/h, mixed 5.4, 5-speed) versus 1.2 MT 83 hp (875 kg, 13.1 s, 165 km/h, mixed 5.0, 6-speed, CO2 106): +7 hp, −5 kg, −1.2 s, +15 km/h, +0.4 mixed. Boost on all four restyle cars is not measured. Tank 37 L. City and highway on restyle: not measured.

6 generation (from 2023-12-01, Mini 5-doors). Only 1.2 MT 82 hp / 114 Nm / 1197 cm³ / Gasoline / Inline 3 / Manual 5 / FWD and 1.2 CVT 82 hp / 114 Nm / Variable / FWD. Compression 13, bore 74 x 92.8, 95 octane. Boost, mass, clearance, tank, 0–100, top speed, consumption, CO2, eco class: not measured. Versus 5 generation restyle 1.2 MT 83 hp (same 1197 cm³ but Inline 4, 875 kg, 13.1 s): 6 generation is 1 hp lower and loses the fourth cylinder in the data; you cannot compare mass. Buy 6 generation only if you accept an empty performance sheet.

All remaining catalogue versions keep their database names (1.2 AT, 1.2 CVT, 1.3 AT, 1.3 AGS, 1.5 AT, 1.6 AT, 1.0 AT, 1.0 MT, and the duplicate 1.2 MT / 1.3 MT rows distinguished above by hp, drive or mass). Cylinders are 3 or 4; layout is Inline on every version that lists it.

Performance, mpg and horsepower: who actually wins the stopwatch

Fastest measured 0–100 in the file is 1 generation 1.3 MT 100 hp at 8.6 s (800 kg). Next measured cluster is 4 generation 1.6 MT 136 hp at 8.7 s (1115 or 1130 kg) and 195 km/h — 15 km/h above that 180 km/h 100 hp car. Third: 3 generation restyle 1.5 MT 102 hp at 10.0 s / 185 km/h. Fifth-generation 1.2 AT 90 hp is 11.0 s / 175 km/h; 1.2 MT 90 hp is 11.9 s / 180 km/h. Restyle 1.2 AT 83 hp is 12.2 s; restyle 1.2 MT 83 hp is 13.1 s / 165 km/h. Fourth-generation FWD 1.2 MT 94 hp is 12.3 s / 165 km/h; AWD 1.2 MT 94 hp is 13.4 s; 1.2 AT 94 hp is 13.5 s / 160 km/h. Diesel 1.3 MT 75 hp is 12.7 s; 3 generation restyle Diesel 1.3 MT 70 hp is 14.2 s. 2 generation restyle 1.0 MT 53 hp is 15.6 s / 145 km/h.

Fifth-generation 1.4 MT / 1.4 AT (140 hp), 1.0 AT (102 hp), all three Hybrid 1.2 cars, Gasoline 1.2 CVT AWD, 4 generation 1.6 CVT, 3 generation pre-restyle five, 6 generation both, and 1 generation Turbo 1.0: 0–100 not measured.

Lowest measured mixed consumption: 4 generation 1.3 MT Diesel 3.9 L/100 km (city 4.7, highway 3.4). Then 5 generation 1.2 MT 90 hp at 4.6 and 1.2 AT 90 hp at 4.7, matching 3 generation restyle Diesel 1.3 MT mixed 4.6. Restyle 5 generation mixed: 1.2 MT 83 hp 5.0, 1.2 AT 83 hp 5.4, 1.2 MT 90 hp 5.4, 1.2 AT 90 hp 5.81. Fourth-generation FWD 1.2 MT mixed 5.0; AWD 5.5; 1.6 MT 6.4. City/highway on 5 generation restyle and on 6 generation: not measured. CO2 is measured on some 4 generation 1.2 cars (116–129) and on restyle 5 1.2 AT 83 hp (115) and 1.2 MT 83 hp (106); elsewhere not measured.

Power per litre (arithmetic on listed hp and cm³): 5 generation 1.0 AT 102.4 hp/L; 1.4 MT/1.4 AT 102.1; 4 generation 1.6 MT 85.8; 5 generation 1.2 MT 90 hp 72.5; 6 generation 1.2 MT 68.5; 4 generation Diesel 1.3 MT 60.1. kg per hp where both exist: 1.4 MT 6.93; 1 generation 1.3 MT 100 hp 8.00; 1.6 MT 1115 kg 8.20; 5 generation 1.2 MT 90 hp 9.67; Hybrid 1.2 CVT FWD 10.00; Diesel 1.3 MT 15.00.

Dimensions and weight: what the extra kilograms buy

Lightest measured kerb: 2 generation 1.0 MT 53 hp at 750 kg; then 1 generation 800 kg cars; 5 generation 1.2 MT 90 hp 870 kg; restyle 1.2 MT 90 hp 870 kg; 1.2 MT 83 hp 875 kg. Heaviest among common modern cars: 4 generation AWD 1.2 MT 1135 kg and 1.6 MT 1130 kg. Hybrid AWD 1.2 CVT 970 kg equals 1.4 MT 970 kg. Gross weight 1365 kg on 5 generation 1.2 MT/1.2 AT 90 hp and restyle 90 hp / 83 hp MT; 1375 kg on restyle 1.2 AT 83 hp; 1480 kg on most 4 generation FWD petrol; 1560 kg on 4 generation AWD 1.2 MT and Diesel 1.3 MT. 6 generation gross: not measured.

Ground clearance: 119–120 mm on most 5 generation FWD; 145 mm on Hybrid 1.2 CVT AWD; 130–140 mm on 4 generation; 160–175 mm on 3 generation pre-restyle (AWD 175 mm); 160–165 mm on 2 generation; 1 generation and 6 generation: not measured.

Tank: 37 L (5 generation and restyle), 42 L (4), 45 L (3 restyle), 41 L (3), 38–40 L (2), not measured (1 and 6). Wheels: not measured except 4 generation rows that list 175/65 R15 and 185/55 R16.

Which version to choose

Want the highest listed horsepower in a Mini 5-doors Swift: 5 generation 1.4 MT or 1.4 AT at 140 hp and 230 Nm. The AT costs 20 kg. Fuel is 98. 0–100 not measured — do not treat 140 hp as proven faster than 4 generation 1.6 MT 8.7 s.

Want a proven 0–100 under 9 s without going back to 1983: 4 generation or 4 restyle 1.6 MT 136 hp. Prefer 1115 kg over 1130 kg (same times, 15 kg less). Skip 1.6 CVT if you need a stopwatch: not measured.

Want Hybrid: only 5 generation. Choose 1.2 CVT Hybrid FWD (910 kg, 120 mm) as the lightest Hybrid; 1.2 CVT Hybrid AWD if 145 mm clearance is the purchase (60 kg more); 1.2 AGS if you want Robotic 5 instead of Variable (960 kg). Consumption not measured on all three — Hybrid here is a fuel-type label, not a proven mpg win over 1.2 MT 4.6 mixed.

Want the cheapest-to-run measured fuel volume: 4 generation 1.3 MT Diesel, mixed 3.9. It is 250 kg heavier than 5 generation 1.2 MT 90 hp and 0.8 s slower (12.7 vs 11.9).

Want a 2020-on Mini 5-doors with a complete 0–100: restyle 1.2 AT 90 hp (11.0 s, 900 kg) or 1.2 MT 90 hp (11.9 s, 870 kg, 180 km/h). The 83 hp twins save mixed fuel (5.0–5.4 vs 5.4–5.81) and add Euro 6 plus CO2 on the 83 hp pair; they give back 1.2 s.

Want AWD: 5 generation Hybrid 1.2 CVT AWD (145 mm) is the only AWD with 145 mm in 5 generation. 4 generation AWD 1.2 MT 94 hp is 13.4 s versus 12.3 s FWD. 3 generation AWD 1.3 MT 92 hp is 12.8 s versus 11.0 s FWD. 2 generation AWD 1.6 MT 95 hp is 60 kg heavier than FWD 1.6 MT 95 hp.

Want 6 generation (2023–): 1.2 MT or 1.2 CVT, both 82 hp Inline 3. You are buying an engine specification without mass, mpg, or acceleration. If those columns matter, stay on 5 generation restyle 1.2 MT 83 hp, which is the same 1197 cm³ class with 875 kg, 13.1 s, mixed 5.0 and CO2 106 measured.

Want a 1990s Cabrio or Sedan: 2 generation FWD 1.6 MT 95 hp (182 km/h, mixed 6.1, 80 octane) or the light 1.0 MT 53 hp (750 kg). Reliability, oil capacity, engine mounts, GTI nameplates, USA trim, 2025/2026 model-year packs and asking prices are not measured in this file — ranking stops at hp, Nm, kg, seconds and litres.

Problems as missing data, not as a defect list: 6 generation is almost entirely not measured; 5 generation Turbo 1.4 and 1.0 have no 0–100; Hybrid has no mpg; 1 generation Turbo 1.0 has no mass. Those gaps are why the buying order above treats a measured 8.7 s 1.6 MT as a stronger performance purchase than an unmeasured 140 hp 1.4 MT, even though 140 is 4 hp more and 6.93 kg/hp is the better ratio on paper.
