Nissan Juke: which version to choose

Same badge, different engine: four 1.6 MT names in 1 generation (94 / 117 / 190 / 200 hp) and four again after restyling. Two 1.0 MT in 2 generation (117 vs 114 hp). Two 1.6 CVT at 190 hp that split only on FWD vs AWD.

If the job is daily fuel and a current car: 2 generation 1.0 7DCT (117 hp) is the lowest mixed figure in the whole model at 4.8 l/100 km, CO2 110 g/km, Euro 6, 0–100 in 10.6 s. It is also the only current-looking row that stops (2021-01-01–2022-10-31). After that date the same 4.8 mixed number reappears on 2 generation, restyling 1.6 AT (143 hp, Hybrid). That restyled Hybrid is 120 kg heavier than the 1.0 7DCT (1405 vs 1285 kg) and 14 km/h slower at the top (166 vs 180 km/h), but 0–100 is 0.5 s quicker (10.1 vs 10.6). City and highway for both Hybrids and for 1.0 DCT are not measured.

If the job is the lightest current petrol: 2 generation 1.0 MT (117 hp) at 1182 kg is the lightest Juke in the data, 10.1 kg/hp, mixed 4.9, city 5.1, highway 4.1, 0–100 in 10.4 s. That is 0.3 s and 5 kg better than the other 1.0 MT (114 hp, 1187 kg, mixed 5.0, 10.7 s). Both are Manual 6, FWD, Turbo, Inline 3, 999 cm³, 95, tank 46 l. The 117 hp unit makes peak torque earlier (180 Nm at 1750 vs 200 Nm at 3000). Extra 20 Nm on the 114 hp car does not buy a faster 0–100.

If the job is automatic without a dual-clutch: 2 generation 1.6 AT (143 hp, Hybrid, Automatic 4) is the only Hybrid in 2 generation. Mixed 5.1 (0.2 worse than 1.0 7DCT), CO2 115, 0–100 10.1 s (best in generation 2), top speed 166 km/h (worst in generation 2). Kerb 1400 kg, gross 1810 kg — heaviest generation-2 row. Restyled 1.6 AT adds 5 kg (1405), mixed improves to 4.8, clearance 184 mm vs 180 mm on every other measured Juke except the low-clearance first-gen rows.

If the job is speed: nothing in generation 2 or its restyling beats 11.1 s at the slow end (1.0 DCT, 114 hp) or 10.1 s at the fast end. The catalogue’s fastest cars are first-generation Turbo 1618 cm³ Gasoline rows: 1 generation 1.6 MT (200 hp) 7.8 s and 215 km/h; 1 generation 1.6 MT (190 hp) 8.0 s and 215 km/h. Restyling keeps 8.0 s / 215 km/h on 1.6 MT (190 hp) but cuts the 200 hp 1.6 MT top speed from 215 to 200 km/h while 0–100 stays 7.8 s. That 15 km/h is what the restyle takes from the 200 hp manual.

If the job is AWD: only two rows, both 1 generation: 1.6 CVT (190 hp, AWD) and 1.6 Xtronic-CVT-M7 (200 hp, AWD). Restyling 1.6 AWD Xtronic (200 hp) is labelled FWD in the drive field despite the name — treat it as FWD per the data. The 190 hp AWD CVT is 94 kg heavier than the 190 hp FWD CVT (1436 vs 1342 kg), mixed 7.6 vs 8.1, city 10.2 vs 8.7, highway 6.0 vs 7.3, top speed 200 vs 210 km/h, 0–100 the same 8.4 s. AWD here costs 10 km/h and 94 kg and does not change the sprint.

If the job is diesel: 1.5 MT (110 hp, Diesel, Turbo, Manual 5, FWD) in both first-generation lines. Torque 260 Nm is the model peak, 0–100 11.2 s, 175 km/h. Mixed on the restyle is 4.0 l/100 km (city 4.6, highway 3.7) — lowest mixed of any measured Juke. Pre-restyle city, highway and mixed for the same 1.5 MT are not measured. Clearance 170 mm on the first 1.5 MT, 180 mm after restyling. Gross weight not measured on either diesel.

If the job is the cheapest-to-feed naturally aspirated petrol: restyle 1.6 MT (94 hp) at 1176 kg (lightest restyle, 18 kg below the first-gen 94 hp 1.6 MT at 1194 kg), mixed 6.0, 12.0 s, 168 km/h. 1.6 MT (117 hp) restyle is 16 kg heavier, 0.5 s quicker (11.5 vs 12.0), mixed still 6.0. First-gen 1.6 MT (117 hp) mixed 6.3 and 11.0 s / 178 km/h — 8 km/h more top speed than the restyle 117 hp, 0.5 s quicker 0–100, 0.3 l/100 km thirstier mixed.

If the job is a CVT without turbo: 1.6 CVT (117 hp) in both first-generation lines: 11.5 s, 170 km/h, mixed 6.3, 1225 kg. 1.5 CVT (113 hp, first gen) has 0–100, top speed, consumption and weights not measured; restyle 1.5 CVT (114 hp) has top speed 170 km/h, CO2 145, Euro 5, 1225/1685 kg, consumption and 0–100 not measured.

Generations compared: what actually changed

1 generation is the only line with Diesel, with AWD, with 200 hp, and with a 94 hp 5-speed. Ground clearance is 180 mm on most petrols and 170 mm on 1.5 CVT, 1.5 MT, and AWD 1.6 CVT (190 hp). Wheel sizes are not measured on most of those performance rows.

1 generation, restyling overlaps the first line (from 2014-07-01 while the original still runs to 2014-10-31). It adds 1.2 MT (115 hp, Compressor — the only Compressor in the model, 1198 cm³, 190 Nm, Manual 6). 0–100, top speed, consumption, kerb and gross for 1.2 MT are not measured. Eco labels appear: Euro 6 on 1.2 MT, Euro 5 on the 94/114/117 hp petrols and the diesel, Euro 4 on every 190/200 hp Turbo. CO2 is now filled for several cars that were not measured in 2010: 159 on 1.6 MT (190 hp), 169 on AWD 1.6 CVT (190 hp), 138 on 1.6 MT (94 hp), 139 on 1.6 MT (117 hp), 145 on both 117 hp CVT and 114 hp 1.5 CVT.

2 generation throws away the 1618 Turbo, the diesel, AWD and CVT. Every petrol is a 999 cm³ Inline 3 Turbo Direct injection (direct), 95, Euro 6. The Hybrid 1.6 AT is the only 4-cylinder and the only Automatic. Robotic 7-speed arrives as 1.0 7DCT and 1.0 DCT. Clearance is 180 mm on all five. Tank stays 46 l — that 46 l figure does not move for any of the 28 rows.

2 generation, restyling is a three-row cut: one 1.0 MT (114 hp), one 1.0 DCT (114 hp), one 1.6 AT (143 hp). The 117 hp 1.0 MT and the time-limited 1.0 7DCT are gone. Hybrid 1.6 AT switches nadduv from No to Turbo, mixed from 5.1 to 4.8, kerb 1400→1405, clearance 180→184 mm. 1.0 MT (114 hp) restyle matches the 2020 1.0 MT (114 hp) on 10.7 s, 180 km/h, 5.8/4.4/5.0, 1187/1700 kg, 113 g/km.

Specific output (hp per litre, displacement in litres = cm³/1000): 1.6 MT / 1.6 Xtronic-CVT-M7 200 hp = 123.6 hp/l (highest). 1.0 MT 117 hp = 117.1 hp/l, 1.6 MT 190 hp = 117.4 hp/l — the small three-cylinder matches the old 1.6 Turbo on specific output, not on absolute power. 1.6 AT Hybrid 143 hp = 89.5 hp/l. 1.6 MT 94 hp = 58.8 hp/l (lowest). 1.2 MT 115 hp = 96.0 hp/l.

Engine placement is Front, transverse on every row. Valves per cylinder: 4. Injection is Direct injection (direct) on turbos, diesels, compressor and hybrids; Distributed injection (multi-point) on the naturally aspirated 1.5/1.6 petrols.

Performance and economy (mpg / l/100 km)

0–100 range in the data: 7.8 s (1.6 MT 200 hp, both first-gen lines) to 12.0 s (1.6 MT 94 hp, both first-gen lines). Not measured: 1 generation 1.5 CVT (113 hp); restyle 1.2 MT (115 hp); restyle 1.5 CVT (114 hp).

Top speed range: 166 km/h (both Hybrids) to 215 km/h (1.6 MT 190 hp both lines; 1 generation 1.6 MT 200 hp). Not measured: first-gen 1.5 CVT (113 hp) and restyle 1.2 MT.

Mixed fuel: best measured 4.0 (1 generation, restyling 1.5 MT diesel); next 4.8 (2 generation 1.0 7DCT and restyle 1.6 AT); worst measured 8.1 (1 generation 1.6 CVT 190 hp FWD). Not measured mixed: first-gen 1.5 CVT, 1.5 MT, 1.6 MT 200 hp, 1.6 Xtronic-CVT-M7; restyle 1.2 MT, 1.5 CVT, 1.6 MT 200 hp, 1.6 AWD Xtronic; 2 generation 1.0 DCT city/highway (mixed is 6.2); both Hybrids city/highway.

Robotic vs Manual on the same 114 hp 999 Turbo in generation 2: 1.0 MT mixed 5.0 vs 1.0 DCT mixed 6.2 — the dual-clutch is 1.2 l/100 km worse and 0.4 s slower (11.1 vs 10.7). Kerb penalty of the DCT: 99 kg (1286 vs 1187). 1.0 7DCT (117 hp) reverses that story on mixed (4.8) but still carries 103 kg extra vs 1.0 MT 117 hp (1285 vs 1182) and loses 0.2 s (10.6 vs 10.4).

CO2 where measured: 110–115 g/km on generation 2; 138–169 on first-gen restyle petrols. First-gen pre-restyle CO2 is 138 on 1.6 MT 94 hp and not measured on the rest.

Dimensions and weight

Tank is 46 l on every version. Ground clearance is 180 mm except: 170 mm on 1 generation 1.5 CVT, 1.5 MT, AWD 1.6 CVT 190 hp; 170 mm on restyle AWD 1.6 CVT 190 hp, 1.6 MT 200 hp, 1.6 AWD Xtronic; 184 mm on restyle 1.6 AT.

Kerb range: 1176 kg (restyle 1.6 MT 94 hp) to 1436 kg (1 generation AWD 1.6 CVT 190 hp). Not measured kerb: 1.5 CVT 113 hp, 1.2 MT 115 hp.

Gross range: 1610 kg (restyle 1.6 MT 94 hp) to 1890 kg (restyle 1.6 AWD Xtronic). Not measured gross: both diesels, 1.5 CVT 113 hp, 1.2 MT.

kg per hp (kerb/hp), where kerb is measured: 1.6 MT 200 hp first gen 6.71; 1.6 MT 190 hp first gen 6.86; restyle 1.6 MT 190 hp 6.85; AWD 190 hp first gen 7.56; 1.0 MT 117 hp 10.10; Hybrid 9.79 (gen 2) / 9.83 (restyle); 1.6 MT 94 hp 12.70 / 12.51. The Turbo 1.6 is in a different weight-to-power class from every 1.0 and every Hybrid.

Wheels, where listed: generation 2 petrols 215/65 R16, 215/60 R17, 225/45 R19 (1.0 7DCT drops the 16-inch). Hybrid gen 2: 215/60 R17, 225/45 R19. Restyle gen 2 adds 215/65 R16 on the Hybrid. First gen 117 hp: 205/60 R16, 215/55 R17. Restyle 117 hp and 1.5 CVT: 205/50 R16, 215/55 R17. Restyle 1.6 MT 190 hp: 215/55 R17, 225/45 R18. Many first-gen performance rows: wheels not measured.

Chassis pattern does not change with generation: front Independent, spring; rear Semi-independent, springorts hélicoïdaux, sem; front Ventilated disc; rear Disc.

Reliability and problems (what the numbers force you to check)

There is no fault-rate field in the data. What the table does force: 1.0 7DCT is the only generation-2 petrol with a stop date (2022-10-31). Buying that badge after that date is buying a used car by definition. 1 generation ends 2014-10-31 while 1 generation, restyling started 2014-07-01 — a four-month overlap where both 94/117/190/200 hp 1.6 MT families exist at once; they are not the same cars (94 hp torque 128 vs 140 Nm; 117 hp 0–100 11.0 vs 11.5 s; 200 hp top speed 215 vs 200 km/h; 200 hp kerb 1342 vs 1425 kg). 1.6 AWD Xtronic is named AWD and coded FWD — do not assume a rear axle from the badge. Eco class jumps from not measured (most of 1 generation) to Euro 4 on the hot 1.6, Euro 5 on the small petrols and diesel, Euro 6 on 1.2 MT and everything from 2019. Compression is 10.5 on 999 Turbo, 11 on Hybrid, 9.5 on 190 hp 1618, not measured on several NA 1.6s.

Buyer's short list

Nissan Juke versions differ by tens of kilograms and seconds, not by body type. Match the exact badge and the horsepower in brackets, or you will order the wrong 1.6 MT.
