Lamborghini Murcielago: which version to buy
The Lamborghini Murcielago is a Coupe sold in one generation (2001–2010) with a restyling from 2005. The catalogue lists nine versions: four 6.2 MT / 6.2 DSG cars from the first series and five 6.5 MT / 6.5 DSG cars after restyling. All use a naturally aspirated Gasoline 12-cylinder V-shaped engine in Central position, a 6-speed gearbox, and AWD.

All use a naturally aspirated Gasoline 12-cylinder V-shaped engine in Central position, a 6-speed gearbox, and AWD. The buying choice is not “which body” — every version is a Coupe — but which combination of displacement, power, gearbox, mass, and clearance you want. The lightest and strongest listing is the restyled 6.5 DSG at 670 hp with a kerb weight of 1565 kg; the slowest 0–100 km/h figure is 3.9 s on two 6.2 MT listings. There are no prices in this dataset, so “what you get extra” means extra horsepower, speed, and mass — not money.
Generations
1 generation (2001–2006), Coupe, 4 versions. Production of the first series runs from 2001-01-01 to 2006-12-31. Every version is a Coupe with a 6192 cm³ Gasoline 12-cylinder V-shaped engine, no boost, Central layout, multi-point distributed injection, 6 speeds, and AWD. Power is 580 hp on all four listings (427 kW on three of them, 426 kW on one 6.2 DSG). Torque is 650 Nm at 5400 rpm throughout. The split is two 6.2 MT (Manual) and two 6.2 DSG (Robotic). 0–100 km/h is 3.9 s on both 6.2 MT cars and 3.7–3.8 s on the two 6.2 DSG cars. Top speed is 330 km/h on every first-series version. Fuel use is measured on only one of the four: the 6.2 DSG at 580 hp / 426 kW.
1 generation, restyling (2005–2010), Coupe, 5 versions. The restyling overlaps the first series (2005-01-01 to 2010-12-31) and keeps the Coupe, Central 12-cylinder V-shaped Gasoline layout, no boost, 6 speeds, and AWD. Displacement rises from 6192 to 6496 cm³ (+304 cm³). Output is 640 hp (471 kW) on four listings and 670 hp (493 kW) on one 6.5 DSG. Torque is 660 Nm on all five — 10 Nm more than the first series. The gearbox split is two 6.5 MT (Manual) and three 6.5 DSG (Robotic). The fastest 0–100 km/h time in the restyling is 3.2 s; the highest top speed is 342 km/h. Two restyled cars sit 90 mm off the ground; three sit at 140 mm or keep that first-series clearance.
Lamborghini Murcielago specs: engines and versions
Power per litre (hp ÷ displacement in litres) is 93.7 hp/l on every 6192 cm³ car (580 ÷ 6.192), 98.5 hp/l on the 640 hp 6496 cm³ cars (640 ÷ 6.496), and 103.1 hp/l on the 670 hp 6.5 DSG (670 ÷ 6.496). The restyling therefore buys about 4.8 hp per litre over the first series at 640 hp, and another 4.6 hp/l on the 670 hp listing.

Compression is 10.7 on all 6.2-litre cars, 11.0 on both 6.5 MT listings and on the 6.5 DSG 670 hp, and 11.2 on the two 6.5 DSG 640 hp cars. Bore × stroke is 87 × 86.8 mm on three first-series cars, 87 × 86.7 mm on the 6.2 DSG 426 kW, and 88 × 89 mm after restyling. Peak power arrives 500 rpm later after restyling (8000 vs 7500). Peak torque on the 6.5 DSG 670 hp is quoted at 6500 rpm, 1100 rpm above the first series; on two 6.5 DSG 640 hp cars the torque rpm is not measured.
Performance, 0–100, and mpg (L/100 km)
How fast is a Lamborghini Murcielago in this catalogue: 0–100 km/h spans 3.2 s to 3.9 s (0.7 s). Top speed spans 330–342 km/h (12 km/h).
- 6.2 MT 580 hp (both listings): 3.9 s, 330 km/h. Slowest sprint in the model.
- 6.2 DSG 580 hp / 426 kW: 3.8 s, 330 km/h — 0.1 s quicker than the Manual twins, same top speed.
- 6.2 DSG 580 hp / 427 kW: 3.7 s, 330 km/h — 0.2 s quicker than 6.2 MT. That is the only first-series gain the Robotic gearbox shows in 0–100.
- 6.5 DSG 640 hp / 330 km/h: 3.5 s, 330 km/h — 0.4 s quicker than 6.2 MT, same 330 km/h ceiling.
- 6.5 MT (both 640 hp listings): 3.4 s. The 95-octane car is listed at 338 km/h; the 98-octane 6.5 MT stays at 330 km/h. Same 3.4 s, 8 km/h difference at the top.
- 6.5 DSG 640 hp / 342 km/h and 6.5 DSG 670 hp: both 3.2 s and 342 km/h. The extra 30 hp on the 670 hp car does not change the listed 0–100 or top speed versus this 640 hp Robotic twin.
Fuel (L/100 km; “mpg” in the search sense, in catalogue units):
- 6.2 MT (both) and 6.2 DSG 427 kW: city / highway / mixed not measured.
- 6.2 DSG 426 kW: 32.6 / 15.1 / 21.5. The only first-series economy figure.
- 6.5 MT (both 640 hp): 32.3 / 15.0 / 21.3. Versus the measured first-series 6.2 DSG, that is −0.3 city, −0.1 highway, −0.2 mixed — a 60 hp gain with a slightly lower mixed figure.
- 6.5 DSG 640 hp / 342 km/h and 6.5 DSG 670 hp: 32.0 / 13.7 / 20.6. Versus 6.5 MT: −0.3 city, −1.3 highway, −0.7 mixed. Versus the first-series measured car: −0.6 / −1.4 / −0.9.
- 6.5 DSG 640 hp / 330 km/h: city / highway / mixed not measured.
The 100-litre tank is the same on all nine versions. Mixed 20.6 L/100 km on a 100-litre tank is about 485 km of mixed range; mixed 21.5 L/100 km is about 465 km. Those ranges are arithmetic on the measured mixed figures only.
Dimensions, weight, and ground clearance
Length, width, height, and weight distribution are not measured on any version. What is measured is kerb mass, gross mass, clearance, tank, and wheels.
Kerb weight (kg) and kg per horsepower (kerb ÷ hp), where kerb is measured:
- 6.5 DSG 670 hp: 1565 kg → 2.34 kg/hp. Lightest car and best mass-to-power in the catalogue. Gross 1800 kg (payload 235 kg).
- 6.2 MT 580 hp (first listing) and 6.2 DSG 427 kW: 1650 kg → 2.84 kg/hp. Gross 2000 kg.
- 6.2 DSG 426 kW: 1690 kg → 2.91 kg/hp. Gross 1800 kg (payload 110 kg — smallest payload among measured pairs).
- 6.5 MT 640 hp / 95: 1830 kg → 2.86 kg/hp. Gross 2015 kg. Heavier than the 1650 kg first-series cars by 180 kg despite +60 hp; kg/hp is almost unchanged (2.86 vs 2.84).
- 6.5 MT 640 hp / 98: 1845 kg → 2.88 kg/hp. Gross 2015 kg. 15 kg heavier than the other 6.5 MT, same 3.4 s, 8 km/h less top speed (330 vs 338).
- 6.2 MT second listing, both remaining 6.5 DSG 640 hp cars: kerb not measured. Gross is 2000 kg on the second 6.2 MT and on the 6.5 DSG 330 km/h, and 2015 kg on the 6.5 DSG 342 km/h.
Ground clearance: 140 mm on both measured 6.2 MT cars, the 6.2 DSG 427 kW, the 6.5 DSG 640 hp / 342 km/h, and the 6.5 DSG 640 hp / 330 km/h. 90 mm on both 6.5 MT cars and on the 6.5 DSG 670 hp — 50 mm lower. The 6.2 DSG 426 kW clearance is not measured.
Wheels: 245/35 R18 front and 335/30 R18 rear on six versions (both 6.2 MT, 6.2 DSG 427 kW, both 6.5 MT, 6.5 DSG 670 hp, 6.5 DSG 640 hp / 330 km/h). The 6.5 DSG 640 hp / 342 km/h is the odd one: 235/35 R19 and 295/30 R19. Wheels on the 6.2 DSG 426 kW are not measured.
Brakes that actually differ: the 6.5 DSG 670 hp is the only car with Ceramic ventilated rear brakes (front Ventilated disc). First-series 6.2 MT (first listing) and 6.2 DSG 427 kW use Disc front / Disc ventilated rear. The 6.2 DSG 426 kW reverses that: Ventilated disc front / Disc rear. Later 6.2 MT and the remaining restyled cars use Ventilated disc front and Disc ventilated rear. Suspension is Independent, spring at both ends on every version.
Which version to choose
If the number that matters is 0–100 km/h. Two restyled cars share the best time, 3.2 s: 6.5 DSG 640 hp / 342 km/h and 6.5 DSG 670 hp. They also share the highest top speed, 342 km/h. The 670 hp car adds 30 hp and 22 kW, a 1565 kg kerb (not measured on the 640 hp twin), 90 mm clearance instead of 140 mm, 18-inch wheels instead of 19-inch, 98 instead of 95 fuel, compression 11.0 instead of 11.2, Ceramic ventilated rears, and a 1800 kg gross versus 2015 kg. Listed sprint and top speed do not move. The extra 30 hp here is mass, brakes, ride height, and fuel grade — not a quicker catalogue time.
If you want the first series and a Robotic gearbox. 6.2 DSG 580 hp / 427 kW is 3.7 s and 1650 kg; 6.2 DSG 580 hp / 426 kW is 3.8 s and 1690 kg, uses 98 fuel, and is the only 6.2-litre car with a measured consumption (32.6 / 15.1 / 21.5). Power is 580 hp on both; the 1 kW and 0.1 s gaps are the whole difference in the listed performance. Choose the 427 kW car for the quicker sprint and lower kerb; choose the 426 kW car if you need the only first-series mpg figures in this dataset.
If you want a Manual. First series: both 6.2 MT 580 hp cars are 3.9 s and 330 km/h. One has kerb 1650 kg, Disc front brakes, and 140 mm clearance; the other has kerb not measured, Ventilated disc both ends, same 140 mm and the same wheels. Restyling: both 6.5 MT 640 hp cars are 3.4 s — 0.5 s quicker than 6.2 MT. The 95-octane 6.5 MT is 1830 kg and 338 km/h; the 98-octane 6.5 MT is 1845 kg and 330 km/h. Same 640 hp, same 3.4 s, 15 kg and 8 km/h apart. The 95-octane 6.5 MT is the quicker-top-speed Manual; it also sits at 90 mm, 50 mm lower than the first-series Manuals.
If kerb weight and kg/hp decide it. The 6.5 DSG 670 hp at 1565 kg and 2.34 kg/hp is in a different class from every other measured car (2.84–2.91 kg/hp). The restyled Manuals are the heaviest measured cars (1830–1845 kg) even though they make 60 hp more than the 1650 kg first-series cars. Restyling did not make every Murcielago lighter; it made one listing much lighter and two Manuals heavier.
If ground clearance decides it. Stay on 140 mm: first-series 6.2 MT and 6.2 DSG 427 kW, plus restyled 6.5 DSG 640 hp (both the 342 km/h and 330 km/h listings). Drop to 90 mm only if you are buying a 6.5 MT or the 6.5 DSG 670 hp.
If you only care that restyling changed the engine. Displacement +304 cm³, power +60 hp on the 640 hp cars or +90 hp on the 670 hp 6.5 DSG, torque +10 Nm, power peak +500 rpm. Mixed consumption, where both sides are measured, improves by 0.2–0.9 L/100 km. That is the mechanical step; the gearbox choice (Manual vs Robotic) then decides 0.2 s on the first series (6.2 MT 3.9 vs 6.2 DSG 3.7) and up to 0.3 s after restyling (6.5 DSG 3.2 vs 6.5 MT 3.4, or 3.5 s on the slowest restyled 6.5 DSG).
Short ranking by listed 0–100, then by what is actually measured. 1) 6.5 DSG 670 hp — 3.2 s, 342 km/h, 1565 kg, 90 mm, Ceramic ventilated rear. 2) 6.5 DSG 640 hp / 342 km/h — same 3.2 s and 342 km/h, 140 mm, 19-inch wheels, kerb not measured. 3) 6.5 MT 640 hp / 95 — 3.4 s, 338 km/h, 1830 kg. 4) 6.5 MT 640 hp / 98 — 3.4 s, 330 km/h, 1845 kg. 5) 6.5 DSG 640 hp / 330 km/h — 3.5 s, 330 km/h, fuel and kerb not measured. 6) 6.2 DSG 427 kW — 3.7 s, 1650 kg. 7) 6.2 DSG 426 kW — 3.8 s, 1690 kg, only first-series mpg. 8–9) both 6.2 MT — 3.9 s, 330 km/h.
There is no sale price, no “for sale” stock, and no 2026 model in this data. Reliability and known problems are not measured here. The version names above are the catalogue names: 6.2 MT, 6.2 DSG, 6.5 MT, 6.5 DSG, distinguished by hp, kW, fuel grade, or top speed where the name repeats.
