KGM Torres: which version to buy

The KGM Torres has one generation (from 1 July 2023, still in production) and three current versions in a single SUV 5-doors body. The buying question is not “which generation.” It is which of 1.5 AT (FWD, 163 hp), 1.5 AT (AWD, 163 hp), or 1.5 e-DHT (FWD Hybrid, 204 hp) matches the job. All three share a 6-speed Automatic, 95-octane fuel, a 50 L tank, 191 km/h top speed, and the same wheel sizes.

Engine placement is Front, transverse and injection is Direct injection (direct) on every row. Compression is 9.5 on both 1.5 AT rows and 14 on 1.5 e-DHT. Bore × stroke is 76 x 82.5 mm on 1.5 AT and 72x92 mm on 1.5 e-DHT. Front brakes are Ventilated disc on both 1.5 AT versions and Disc on 1.5 e-DHT; rear brakes are Disc on all three. Suspension is Independent, spring front and rear on all three.

Power, torque, and kg per horsepower

The two 1.5 AT versions are the same gasoline turbo: 163 hp from 1497 cc is 108.9 hp per litre. 1.5 e-DHT is 204 hp from 1498 cc: 136.2 hp per litre, 41 hp and 31 kW more than either 1.5 AT.

Torque goes the other way. Both 1.5 AT versions make 280 Nm at 4000 rpm. 1.5 e-DHT makes 220 Nm at 4200 rpm60 Nm less, and 200 rpm later. If the use case is towing feel, mid-range pull, or loaded hills, the gasoline 1.5 AT has the larger number. 0–100 km/h is not measured on all three. Top speed is 191 km/h on all three, so the extra 41 hp on 1.5 e-DHT does not buy a higher listed maximum.

AWD vs FWD on the two 1.5 AT versions

These two share the name 1.5 AT and the same 163 hp. Distinguish them by drive and mass, not by the nameplate.

AWD 1.5 AT kerb weight is 1618 kg versus 1528 kg FWD: +90 kg. Gross is 2170 kg versus 2080 kg: also +90 kg. Payload is the same arithmetic on both: 2080 − 1528 = 552 kg FWD and 2170 − 1618 = 552 kg AWD. You do not buy extra payload with AWD; you buy AWD and 90 kg.

Mixed consumption is listed as 8.5 L/100 km on both 1.5 AT rows. City and highway consumption are not measured on both. CO2 is not the same: 194 g/km FWD versus 207 g/km AWD (+13 g/km). The extra mass and AWD hardware show up in CO2, not in the mixed fuel figure given here.

Ground clearance is not measured on every version, including both 1.5 AT rows. AWD is the only traction difference you can cite from the data; it is not a listed ground-clearance upgrade.

Hybrid vs gasoline: what 1.5 e-DHT actually buys

1.5 e-DHT is FWD only. It does not replace AWD 1.5 AT; it replaces FWD 1.5 AT with a Hybrid powertrain.

Economy is the largest gap. Mixed is 4.4 L/100 km versus 8.5 on either 1.5 AT: 4.1 L/100 km less, or 51.8% of the gasoline mixed figure. City 6.4 and highway 5.3 are measured only on 1.5 e-DHT; they are not measured on 1.5 AT. Do not invent gasoline city/highway numbers to complete the comparison.

Tank volume is 50 L on all three. At the listed mixed rates that is about 50 / 8.5 × 100 = 588 km on 1.5 AT and 50 / 4.4 × 100 = 1136 km on 1.5 e-DHT — roughly 1.93× the mixed range from the same tank.

CO2 is 139 g/km on 1.5 e-DHT versus 194 FWD 1.5 AT (−55 g/km) and 207 AWD 1.5 AT (−68 g/km). Eco class is Euro 6 on 1.5 e-DHT and not measured on both 1.5 AT versions.

Kerb and gross on 1.5 e-DHT match FWD 1.5 AT exactly: 1528 / 2080 kg, payload 552 kg. The hybrid does not add listed mass versus FWD gasoline in this dataset.

It is the lightest gasoline Torres at 1528 kg and 9.37 kg/hp. It is the baseline: same payload as the other two (552 kg), same 191 km/h, ventilated front discs.

Choose AWD 1.5 AT (163 hp) if the only missing item on FWD 1.5 AT is AWD. You pay 90 kg kerb and gross and +13 g/km CO2. Mixed fuel is still listed 8.5. You do not gain payload, ground clearance (not measured), extra horsepower, or a different gearbox. Power-to-weight is the weakest of the three at 9.93 kg/hp. Buy this row for drive layout, not for economy or listed off-road geometry.

Choose 1.5 e-DHT (204 hp Hybrid) if FWD is acceptable and the goal is lower mixed use and CO2: 4.4 L/100 km, 139 g/km, Euro 6, 204 hp, 7.49 kg/hp, and mixed range from the 50 L tank about 1136 km versus 588 km on 1.5 AT. You give up 60 Nm versus 1.5 AT, AWD, and ventilated front discs. 0–100 remains not measured, so do not treat the 41 hp gap as a proven sprint advantage.

Do not choose between generations. There is one generation and three versions. Restyling is not in the data. The arithmetic choice is FWD gasoline torque, AWD mass, or hybrid economy and system horsepower — using the names 1.5 AT, 1.5 AT, and 1.5 e-DHT exactly as listed.
